2-Cations such as calcium and magnesium are chelated, thus releasing anions.

This reduces the osmotic pressure of salts on plant roots and eliminates the cumulative effect of toxic ions.

Organic acids also chelate nutrients, facilitating their absorption by plants, stimulating growth. They also improve soil texture and increase its water-retention capacity.
